Leominster Americans Win 2nd Straight Ball Hockey Winter Classic After a 4OT Semifinal
EDISON, NEW JERSEY – The Leominster Americans won their 2nd straight title at the 2025 Ball Hockey Winter Classic this past weekend, taking down the Garden State Warriors in the Finals. Led by Team USA members JD Dutney, Korey Wilson, Brandon Jones, Cory Frederickson, Nick Carter, and goaltender Andrew Carter, the Americans made easy work of the Warriors winning by a score of 5-1.
The real excitement, however, came in the semifinal matchup between the Americans and the Pittsburgh Gods – a rematch of the finals in the 2024 Outdoor Championships last October in Fitchburg, MA. In an instant classic, the Americans and the Gods battled for 7 periods straight in a quadruple overtime thriller. The rules of the tournament outlined that the first overtime would be 5v5 for 5 minutes, then the following overtime 4v4, and each of the following overtimes played at 3v3. Both teams traded goals from their superstars and incredible saves from their elite goaltenders, Pat Bell of the Gods and Andrew Carter of the Americans. At one moment in the second period, Bell flashed the leather on a one-timer by a falling Brandon Jones that looked to be an almost certain goal.
At the beginning of the 4th overtime period, Dutney and Frederickson went in on a 2-on-1 and made no mistake as Freddy buried the game winning goal. The trio, including Jones, imediately ran for the door and walked off the rink in celebration and exhaustion as the game finally came to an end.
