With the tournament season coming to an end, we officially have a TIE! Congratulations to the Penn Hills Arsenal and Pittsburgh Gods on fantastic seasons.
Arsenal has been knocking on the door for years, and finally kicked it down at the end of 2022. Penn Hills earned spots in the finals of 3-events in the 2023 season:
•North American Championship loss to the Gods, 3-0
•Club Championships win over the Gods, 2-1
•An OT loss to the Leominster Americans in the most recent “A” final at the U.S. Outdoor Championships
The Pittsburgh Gods rebuilt their club quickly! Entering October, the club had been to all three “A” finals this season as they went for 4 in Fitchburg. A task only to have ever been accomplished once before when they won all 4 events in 2019. Here are the top finishes by one of the younger teams on the scene:
•OT Finals loss to the Garden State Warriors at the Winter Classic
•North American Championship #6 vs Arsenal
•Club Championship loss to Arsenal in the finals
Something is in the water these days in Western PA. Should these two duke it out once more for all the marbles, giving ball hockey fans what they want to see? Maybe a Billy Madison style Academic Decathlon?
